Truth & Reconciliation Day Message

September 30th, 2021 marks the first ever National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.

The day is meant to honour the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities.  Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

There has been a collective realization by us as Canadians that our country, regarded around the world as a leader in human rights, has failed to live up to its own standards with respect to its treatment of Indigenous Peoples. As such, the employees of ARC Clean Energy Canada have decided to observe this sombre day in recognition of these facts.

Rather than spending the day in solitude, we have decided to use this opportunity as a team, to focus on First Nations awareness and culture in recognition of the social context of these troublesome affairs.

As a company, and as individuals, we are committed to the values and actions required for reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.  Further, we support the full implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.  Each of us understand that reconciliation is not simply a statement or gesture, but a commitment, supported by behavioural change to move forward a partnership with Indigenous Peoples and to, wherever possible, encourage and support their ability to reclaim their identity, culture, and livelihood.

ARC Canada understands that Indigenous Peoples have a collective attachment to the land, the same land upon which we seek to do business.  We understand and respect that Indigenous communities have separate organizational and governance structures and we are committed to working within this framework for the betterment of Indigenous individuals and communities, as well as all Canadians.

With these serious matters in the very front of our minds, and on this solemn day in consideration of these serious issues, you have our heartfelt commitment to do better – much better - than we as a company, or as individuals, have done in the past.  We publicly reaffirm our commitment to always engage with First Nations individuals and communities in a respectful and collaborative manner that works towards healing and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
